Devil’s Food Brownies.

Dark chocolate, decadent brownies

I am officially done with my first round of midterms.

And that is probably the most exciting thing going on right now – of course other than the fact that I’m sharing the recipe for these Devil’s Food Brownies with you today. I call them “Devil’s Food” because they are just very dense and rich. Plus, these are the chewy kind so if that’s right up your alley, you’ve come to the right place.

I feel like October 13 was the perfect date to share this recipe. Last year, October 13 fell on a Friday (talk about Freaky Friday!), and I shared these Creepy Crawly Peanut Butter Cup Cookies. I have to admit that although I do love peanut butter cookies, these brownies beat those cookies. You get the chewiness from the actual brownie and then a little crunch from the wafer cookie. Truly the best of both worlds.

Anyway, small sidetrack – I am soooo excited for the new Halloween movie to come out next Friday! I am a big fan of horror movies, and the recreation of the classic looks so good. I mean, this trailer and the soundtrack?! It’s going to be so good.

What better way to kick off the next couple weeks of Halloween treats than with brownies? They consist of my absolute favorite batter of brownie. Plus, feel free to have fun with the toppings!

If you make this recipe, be sure to tag your creation with the hashtag #foodfinessa.

Devil's Food Brownies.

  • 8 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup white, granulated sugar
  • 1/2 stick (1/4 cup) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 additional ounces semisweet chocolate, melted
  • 9 vanilla wafers or biscuit cookies ((you can use chocolate, too!))
  • Chocolate chips
  • Candy eyes
  • Vanilla meringue frosting
  • Red sprinkles or dusting sugar
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line an 8×8″ baking pan with parchment paper. In a small bowl, melt half (4 oz) of chocolate. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, beat sugar, butter, and oil until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla extract, and beat for 1-2 more minutes. Add almond flour and salt, and beat until just combined. Fold in remaining (4 oz) chopped chocolate, and pour batter in baking pan.
  3. Bake brownies for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out semi-wet. The brownies will continue to cook in the pan while they cool. Cut into 9 square brownies.
  4. Dip each wafer cookie into additional semisweet chocolate. Place one chocolate-covered wafer on each brownies. Place two chocolate chips as devil’s horns. Add candy eyes. Allow chocolate to set. Once set, pipe mouth out of frosting. Sprinkle red dusting sugar or sprinkles on top of mouth. Pipe fangs underneath mouth. Enjoy while watching a scary movie!
