Amusement Park Churros.

August 1, 2018

Just like Disney World’s!

The best little fried dessert ever.

Ok, but I do still love donuts.

But these are from another dessert-y heavenly galaxy.

The irony is I would never really get churros when I went to Disney World when I was younger. I would always go for the Mickey Mouse-shaped chocolate-covered vanilla ice cream that would cost about $7. In fact, I don’t think they even served churros that long ago!

So today, I’m compensating for not having churros in Disney World by making them in my own kitchen. Homemade = ten times better than the bought ones that tend to get soggy so quickly.

Is this not perfection? 🙂

Amusement Park Churros.

Churros

  • 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • light, flavorless oil, for frying ((make sure oil can be heated to 350 degrees F))
  • 3/4 cup white, granulated sugar
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Chocolate Sauce

  • 8 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/4 cup milk or heavy cream
  1. Bring water and butter to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Once boiling, remove from heat, and thoroughly mix in flour and salt. Allow to cool for 10 minutes. Whisk in eggs, one at a time until fully incorporated. Transfer mixture to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
  2. Add about 2 inches (high) of oil to a large saucepan. Heat over medium heat until it reaches a temperature of 350 degrees F. While oil is heating, mix together sugar and cinnamon in a large dish. Set aside.
  3. Squeeze about 4 inches of dough into oil, snipping the end with clean scissors. Fry churros until golden brown, about 2 minutes on each side. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to soak up the extra oil and moisture. Allow to cool for about 10 seconds, and then coat immediately in the cinnamon sugar. Fry remaining dough.
  4. While churros are frying, prepare the chocolate sauce. In a small saucepan over low heat, whisk together chocolate and milk or heavy cream until smooth. Transfer to dipping bowl.
  5. Dip churros in chocolate sauce, and enjoy fresh!
