Iced Peach Spearmint Green Tea

Introducing my favorite drink of the summer!

Step aside chamomile, green tea is where it’s at.

No joke, this Iced Peach Spearmint Green Tea is refreshing, light, and super flavorful. To me, usually teas can be bland, but definitely not this one! The peach adds extra natural sweetness that you simply cannot leave out.

Green tea is my new favorite tea, and until last week, I never knew it is one of the healthiest drinks for you. Here’s why!

Green tea is proven to increase fat burning and improve physical performance. It is said to boost your metabolic rate. It also contains caffeine (although lower amounts than coffee), and caffeine itself has been shown to mobilize fatty acids from the fat tissues and make them available for use as energy. Not bad for caffeine. 🙂

Green tea is also packed with antioxidants, which have protective effects against various types of cancer. Many studies also show that catechin compounds in green tea have protective effects on neurons, lowering the risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

And don’t you want to have a healthy mouth (so you can eat more food haha J)? The catechins in green tea are also associated with improved dental health and lower risk of caries (decaying of tooth).

And those are only a few of green tea’s many health benefits. Plus, when you add a little sweetener and natural sugar to it (not too much, though!), it makes for a great substitute for soda and sugary drinks. I’ll definitely be making this tea often this summer… 🙂

Iced Peach Spearmint Green Tea

Mint Ice Cubes

  • Water ((enough for filling mold))
  • Spearmint leaves ((1 leaf per ice cube mold))

Tea

  • 4 cups water
  • 4 green tea bags
  • 6 mint leaves
  • 3 peaches, juiced ((For fresh peach juice, I blended peaches in a blender and then ran the purée through a strainer to filter out the peach pulp.))

Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp white, granulated sugar
  1. Add water to ice cube mold, and place one mint leaf in each ice cube slot. Freeze cubes for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight.
  2. Add 4 cups of water to small saucepan, and bring to a simmer. Once simmering, remove from heat, and add tea bags and 6 mint leaves to water. Let them seep in water for at least 5 minutes until flavors have been extracted from the bags and leaves (mint leaves will look droopy and a darker shade of green).
  3. While tea bags are seeping, make simple syrup. Add 1 cup of water and sugar to a small saucepan over low heat. Heat until sugar has completely dissolved. Remove from heat.
  4. Remove tea bags and mint leaves from tea, and pour simple syrup and peach juice into tea. Stir until liquids are well mixed. Allow tea to cool down to room temperature. Refrigerate tea for at least 1-2 hours or until it is cold. Serve with fresh mint and mint ice cubes!
