A refreshing pairing of veggies and fruit – the best of both worlds!
Yesterday was chocolate day filled with brownies; today we’re doing smoothies…detox smoothies to be exact.
I have been meaning to post a smoothie recipe containing spinach. So today’s the day I present to you a mean green smoothie…my Spinach and Green Apple Chia Power Smoothie (with emphasis on the “power”)!
Ok, ok, I know many people think, “Ew, gross, spinach in smoothies?” But it truly is a great, healthy idea. In fact, you might be thinking you are eating healthy (healthily?) as you drink your ordinary fruit smoothie, but actually, fruit contains a lot of sugar (natural, but still sugar), so replacing some of the fruit with veggies is the way to go. And that’s exactly what we’re doing here today.
Plus, I thought the hyacinths were pretty. I mean, c’mon…
The reason this green smoothie is different from any other is no, not because of the hyacinths, but it has a layer of froth (don’t like that word, but have to use it) that acts as a cloud on top of the juice of the smoothie. I know, I know, I’m weird and obsessed with smoothies and juices.
So in the next few seconds, I’m going to try to make you warm up to spinach by informing you of all its immense nutrients and benefits (if you don’t know of them already). Aside from supplying high levels of antioxidants, spinach offers impressive amounts of vitamins, specifically vitamins A and C, and minerals, such as manganese (boosts the metabolism!), selenium (helps prevent chronic diseases!!, and zinc (strengthens the immune system!). So, um yeah, spinach for the win.
