With the end of summer comes figs!

Figs are at the peak of their season and are ready to be incorporated into breakfast dishes, dessert, and even entrées.

A simple Fig Walnut Oatmeal is the perfect hearty oatmeal for weekdays or weekends. Make it the night before as overnight oats or quickly in the morning within 15 minutes.

Fig Walnut Oatmeal.

  • 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 2 cups milk ((any type))
  • 1 teaspoon fig preserves ((for sweetness))
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, toasted ((roast walnuts in oven at 400 degrees F for 5 minutes until fragrant))
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
  • Figs, sliced ((for topping))
  1. In a medium saucepan over low heat, add the oats and milk. Cook for 2 minutes until oats have begun to absorb the milk. Stir in the fig preserves, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg. Cook until the oats have absorbed almost all the milk and are fully cooked. Remove from heat, and stir in walnuts and pumpkin seeds. Top with sliced figs, and enjoy!
