Spooky Chocolate Rice Treats.

3 days away!!

These are my favorite Halloween treat of the year.

I mean, how can you resist these (really not so) spooky treats?! They are so fun and festive, and have chocolate! What’s better than that?

I honestly can admit that I think chocolate rice treats are better than the original. Really adding chocolate to any version of dessert makes it better – cake, ice cream, pies – the list is endless.

Side note – these photos are some of my favorite of the season. I just love the crackled background I got at Ink and Elm – it adds so much to the photos!

Spooky Chocolate Rice Treats.

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 10 ounces about 2-1/2 cups mini marshmallows
  • 3 cups rice cereal
  • 9 ounces semisweet chocolate, melted
  • 9 sandwich cremes
  • 18 candy eyes
  • 9 almonds
  • Pretzel sticks
  1. Grease an 8 by 8 inch pan. Set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Tip: grease saucepan and spoon with butter to avoid marshmallow sticking to pan and spoon. Pour in mini marshmallows, and stir constantly until they melt. Mix in cocoa powder and 8 ounces of the melted chocolate. Remove from heat, and stir in rice cereal. Immediately transfer to greased pan. Pat top down until flat with parchment paper. Refrigerate for 15 to 30 minutes or until firm.
  3. Cut into squares or triangles for the witch brooms. Split sandwich cremes, and with the additional 1 ounce of melted chocolate, “glue” the two halves, inside face up, to resemble owl eyes. Stick on candy eyes, an almond beak, and pretzel eyebrows. For the witches’ brooms, stick a pretzel into the top of the triangle, and drizzle melted chocolate on top. Enjoy, and happy Halloween!
