Witch’s Brew and Dead Man’s Toe Sugar Cookies.

I put a spell on you…

Hocus Pocus is my absolute favorite movie of all time. Not only my favorite Halloween movie but my favorite movie…ever. Everything from the soundtrack to the videography to the jokes and iconic lines (Use thy voice, Sarah! Fill the sky, bring the little brats to die!) are just so spot on and make me feel I guess nostalgic.

I would watch Hocus Pocus pretty much every year during Halloween time (and not around Halloween, even in the middle of the summer J), and over the years, it became my absolute favorite movie. So today just a couple days before Halloween 2017, I’m sharing a Witch’s Brew Mocktail and some “Dead Man’s Toe” Sugar Cookies inspired by Hocus Pocus. If you have not seen it, please go watch it now! And make this drink and cookies while you’re at it! And you’ll get the dead man’s toe reference if you do too… 🙂

Witch's Brew and Dead Man's "Toes".

Witch’s Brew Mocktail

  • 3 cups concord grape juice
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1 cup ginger ale
  • 1 cup ice ((optional))

Dead Man’s Toe Sugar Cookies

  • 1-1/2 cups 12 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup white, granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 30 whole pecans
  1. To make witch’s brew, add all ingredients large pitcher. Shake, and refrigerate while you make the cookies.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, sugar, vanilla, and egg. Add in flour, baking soda, and salt. Form dough into disk, and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour or until the dough is firm.
  3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper. Remove cookie dough from fridge. Grab about a tablespoon of dough, and form into log shape, crimping the center to make the cookie resemble a toe. Place on cookie sheet. Repeat for rest of dough. Place one whole pecan on the edge to resemble the toenail of each toe. With a toothpick, make line details in the center of the dough toe.
  4. Bake cookies for 7-9 minutes or until they’re slightly raw in the center. They will continue to cook on baking sheet. Allow cookies to cool, and serve with witch’s brew. Happy Halloween!
