Happy Fourth of July!
I told you I had a pretty festive burger recipe for you today 🙂 I mean, “red, white, and blue” is even in the title!
These just might be one of my favorite burgers from Burger Week. Cheese in burgers is just something all foodies, especially cheese lovers, have to try. Cheeses, such as cheddar, mozzarella, and Gouda go really well with meat – it’s just something about the two flavor profiles. But of course if you want to (but I don’t recommend you do), you can simply omit the cheese and make these blueberry burgers with no fillings. If you still want to stuff them with something, caramelized onions would be a yummy addition 🙂
If you’re freaking out over combining fruit and meat, let me just tell you that the blueberry flavor in these burgers is very subtle. I mean, you can barely taste it, but it adds just enough moisture and freshness to the burger that makes it so summery. And the blue color is pretty cool.
Now which burger buns do I recommend for these burgers? Brioche and the good old classic Kaiser rolls are my favorite, but you can pair the burgers with egg rolls (their slightly sweet flavor would complement the blueberry really well), potato buns, or pretzel buns. Whatever suits your fancy!
For these burgers, I tend to go not too crazy with the toppings. Otherwise, the toppings can mask the flavor of the burgers, which you really don’t want. Adding just grilled onions, lettuce (like this French lettuce I used), and barbecue sauce is more than enough since the burger already is stuffed with cheese (in my opinion, the best part J).
So Happy July 4th, and I hope you have fun watching fireworks and enjoying the outdoors…and making these burgers 🙂
